Insurance and Injury Policy

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PARTICIPANTS

Urban Rec does not provide personal accident, injury, or health insurance to participants. All participants engage in Urban Rec activities entirely at their own risk, as acknowledged through the mandatory completion of the Urban Rec Club Waiver prior to participation.

The information provided herein is general in nature and does not take into account your individual circumstances, financial situation, or specific needs.
 You are strongly encouraged to seek independent advice before deciding whether to participate or to obtain additional insurance coverage.

Completion of the Urban Rec Club Waiver is a compulsory condition of participation, confirming your acceptance of all associated risks.

INSURANCE COVERAGE – PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY

Urban Rec does not provide blanket insurance coverage for personal injury, accidents, or loss of income.

Our mission is to keep sport affordable and accessible, allowing participants to engage in recreational activities at a reasonable cost. In line with this, you are solely responsible for assessing your need for insurance coverage.

By completing the Urban Rec Club Waiver, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • You are voluntarily participating at your own risk.
  • Urban Rec is not liable for any injuries, damages, or losses.
  • It is your personal responsibility to arrange any additional insurance you may require.

Urban Rec takes all reasonable steps to provide a safe environment; however, accidents can occur, and you must take personal responsibility for your safety at all times.

If at any point you feel unsafe, unwell, or unable to continue, you must immediately remove yourself from the activity.

No staff, teammate, or official should pressure you to continue. This obligation is clearly stated in the Urban Rec Club Waiver.

IF YOU ARE INJURED

Should an injury occur while participating in an Urban Rec event:

  • You must immediately report the injury to the nearest staff member.
  • You may be asked to provide your name and full details of the incident.
  • Urban Rec staff can assist by providing basic first aid supplies and can call emergency services if required.
  • Urban Rec may follow up with you after the incident, but this does not constitute an acceptance of liability.

Please note:
Participation is voluntary and completed only after acceptance of the Urban Rec Club Waiver confirming understanding of these risks.

OPTIONAL PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE – FLIP PARTNERSHIP

Urban Rec has partnered with Flip to offer participants flexible personal accident insurance coverage:

  • Activation is 100% digital with no waiting periods.
  • Coverage is flexible: $25 per active week or $40 per active month.
  • Coverage is available to Australian residents aged 18–64, including visa holders.
  • Cancel or modify your policy at any time.


IMPORTANT:
Before purchasing Flip insurance, you must read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) available at getflip.com.au to ensure the product suits your needs.
Urban Rec does not manage, administer, or guarantee Flip insurance policies.

Completion of the Urban Rec Club Waiver does not provide you with insurance coverage — you must take proactive steps if coverage is required.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
  • Flip coverage and any optional insurance products are limited in scope and do not replace the need for private health insurance, income protection, life insurance, or trauma insurance.
  • Participants should carefully assess whether additional insurance products are required based on their personal circumstances.
  • All insurance products are subject to strict limits, excesses, exclusions, and conditions.

Urban Rec strongly encourages all participants to:

  • Secure their own private health, income protection, and/or life insurance as needed.
  • Understand that particularly for participants whose employment involves manual labour, a higher level of personal insurance coverage may be necessary to protect against loss of income.

This requirement is reinforced as part of the mandatory Urban Rec Club Waiver.

FINAL REMINDER

By signing and submitting the Urban Rec Club Waiver, you:

  • Acknowledge that participation is voluntary and undertaken at your own risk.
  • Accept that Urban Rec does not provide personal injury, accident, or income protection insurance.
  • Confirm that you are responsible for securing your own insurance coverage if required.
  • Agree to exercise personal judgment regarding your safety and welfare at all times.

Failure to complete the Club Waiver will result in ineligibility to participate in any Urban Rec leagues, tournaments, or events.
